Our projects

Black Range Land Management Group undertake a range of public and private projects. We welcome new participants to get involved in all of our projects!

Feral Deer monitoring & control  

Coordinating with Parks Vic deer control program to set up remote cameras on private and public land capturing feral deer & goat activity; coordinating with PV expected deer control activity in 2023.

Exclosure Plot upgrade on public land  

Auditing of 22 plots, and potential repairing and upgrading 6 plots, which were all erected in the reserves of Black Range 25-30 years ago by Gov’t agencies and BRLMG. Partnership with Parks Victoria, for 2023 completion.

BR Flora and Revegetation for exclosure plots

Plant ID walks; seed collection; BR indigenous flora species list development; propagation workshop; exclosure plot reveg planting expected April - May 2023.

Invasive Plant and Animal control

IPA Strategy and Management Plan for BR developed; planning and coordination of ongoing control works with Project Platypus.

Ongoing rabbit and invasive plant control by landholders in partnership with Project Platypus, the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority and the Prison Landmate Program.  Control works involve rabbit warren ripping and fumigation, as well as chemical spraying and hand removal of priority invasive plants.

Cool burning & Traditional Owner partnership 

Small test cool Cultural burns on private landholdings led by Cultural Fire Rangers of Traditional Owners groups over 2023.

Gariwerd - Black Range - Pyrenees Bio-links 

Improving wildlife corridors between Gariwerd and Black Range, partnering with Jallukar Landcare; to develop actions informed by the ‘Grampians/Gariwerd to Pyrenees Biolink Action Plan’ of 2016.
